AIG Review Score

3 Stars
American International Group (AIG) was founded in 1919, making it a well-established insurance carrier with more than a century of experience in offering quality insurance policies and services to businesses and individuals alike. Today, AIG is one of the largest insurance carriers in the world.
AIG offers commercial insurance, group accident and health insurance, and some specialty property and casualty insurance products for high-net-worth individuals.
AIG’s long-standing history and massive size have helped it to earn a reputation as a notably stable company. The carrier currently supplies coverage to more than 90 million customers across 200 different countries.
AIG’s long-standing status and amount of in-force insurance aid the carrier’s reputation as a financially stable insurance provider. AM Best, the leading global credit rating agency monitoring the insurance industry, gives AIG an “A” rating, indicating the carrier is a stable choice for insurance customers.
We award AIG a final rating of 3 out of 5 stars. The carrier’s long-standing status as one of the largest insurance carriers in the world demonstrates staying power. AIG also has strong financial stability and offers coverage to customers across the globe.
In recent years, AIG has been the recipient of a torrent of negative online reviews, including complaints with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Most third-party consumer ratings remain low. But as the company touts a significant turnaround in 2024 based on strategic deconsolidation and underwriting discipline, other surveys are now finding that the company is trusted and receives a low level of complaints for its individual insurance products.
Overall, we recommend working together with an independent insurance agent to find the coverage you need most from a reputable carrier that takes care of its customers.

AIG allows its policyholders to cover on one policy all types of vehicles, from everyday automobiles to antique and collector cars, motorcycles, motor homes, all-terrain vehicles, golf carts, and more.
Additional coverage types, features, and benefits
In addition to all the standard coverage you'd expect to find, such as bodily injury liability and property damage liability, collision, comprehensive, and personal injury protection, AIG also provides some unique offerings to its policyholders.
Unlimited capacity
You can insure an unlimited number of vehicles per policy, including regular-use automobiles, collector cars, motorcycles, golf carts, motor homes, and more.
Worldwide liability coverage
Most auto insurance policies limit coverage to accidents that happen in the U.S. and its territories. AIG offers protection wherever you travel (with some restrictions).
High liability limits
Liability limits of up to $1 million per occurrence are included. Umbrella liability coverage, with limits up to $100 million, can also be purchased.
Agreed value coverage
If a covered total loss occurs, you'll receive the agreed-upon value, regardless of market depreciation.
New vehicle replacement option
If your new car is totaled within three years of your purchase, you can receive the initially agreed-upon value, replace it with a vehicle from the same make, model, and year; or get a new vehicle of the same make and like model, including hybrids or alternate fuel editions.
Cash settlement option
If your vehicle suffers a covered loss that results in damage of 50% or more than the agreed value, AIG offers you the option of taking an agreed value payout, rather than making repairs.
Rental car reimbursement
No per-day limit on rental car reimbursement if you must rent a car while your damaged vehicle is being repaired. And, you can choose to rent a car of comparable value. Expenses are reimbursed up to $12,500.
Original manufacturers' parts
If repairs must be made, only original manufacturers’ parts will be used. The only exceptions are window glass and parts that are no longer made.
AIG auto insurance average prices
AIG auto insurance tends to cost more than coverage from other carriers. The average monthly premium for AIG auto insurance is $295.
As with any insurance carrier, your cost of coverage depends on factors like the type of car you drive, your age, your driving record, and more.
What Discounts Does AIG Offer?
AIG does not make public any information about the car insurance discounts that it offers to its high-net-worth customers.
An independent insurance agent can help you find ways to save with AIG.

AIG FAQs
AIG’s claims reporting hotline is available for customers in need via a toll-free phone number. Customers can also submit claims and file appropriate reports online through the website, or via mail or fax. Though the carrier does not make an official claims response time frame promise on its website, customers have stated that they were quoted a processing time of 10 to 15 business days.
AIG offers a toll-free phone line for prospective and current customers to get in touch with them during slightly restricted hours, Monday through Friday. However, the carrier’s claims reporting department can be reached 24/7.
While customers can report claims via phone, AIG encourages claims reporting through its website. Customers can file claims in three simple steps. Additional information about what documentation is needed for each specific type of insurance is listed on the carrier’s website. AIG customers can also check the status of their existing claims online at any time.
Customers can file a claim, check their claim's status, pay their bill, update policy preferences such as changing beneficiaries, and learn what types of coverage are available through the official website. However, the carrier’s website is not the most intuitive to browse. The search option is often required for information that should be more readily available via dropdown menus, and even then, certain important information, such as claims processing time frames, appears to be missing.
As far as social media is concerned, the carrier has a presence on Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube to make itself more accessible to customers.
